17. Holding Fire

My real exams are finally over, I still have my mock exams though but here you go :)

I honestly don't want to do this but it seems like the only way to save this relationship right now.

Nicki was at the local cafe waiting for Drake to arrive. She desperately wanted to tell him over text but she had always been told saying this face to face is best.

Just as she was about to call him, he walked into the cafe. After he spotted her, Drake walked over to her and went to kiss her but only received her cheek.

Now I know something is going on.

"I told you to come here because I have something I really need to tell you" Nicki started to say and Drake bit his lip waiting for her to explain what she meant.

"Just know these 4 months we've been together have been amazing and I love you very much"

Why is this so hard?

A waiter came over and disturbed their conversation. "What drinks would you like?"

"I'll have an orange juice"

"And I'll have a coke, in a can please"

The waiter wrote their orders down and walked away.

"As I was saying, I've been thinking. I feel like we've been going a faster pace than I expected we would, I need to focus on getting my mind right for a bit"

"Are you breaking up with me?"

"No, this is not a break up talk. I want to take a break from this relationship and everything really"

Why is he acting like this? I don't want to do this either.

The same waiter came over and placed their drinks in front of them then walked away again.   

Nicki took a sip of her orange juice. Drake had a sad facial expression that made Nicki feel even worse.

"Drake I," Drake didn't let her finish speaking, he picked up his coke and walked out the shop.

Nicki wiped away the tear that was making its way down her face. 

What have I done?

When Nicki got home, she didn't say anything to anyone. She ran straight up to her room and slammed her door behind her.

"What's wrong with Nicki, mummy?" Micaiah asked.

"I don't know baby but I'll find out" 

About 30 minutes later, Carol had made dinner and was about to call everyone to the table.

"Could you go and get your sister for me?"

"Yes" Micaiah walked up the stairs and knocked on Nicki's door. Nicki was on her bed surrounded a bunch of tissues she had used to wipe away her tears.

"Come in" he opened the door and peaked his head through. "Mummy said dinner is ready"

"Okay, give me two seconds" Micaiah waited outside her room for her.

After Nicki had put on a bit more make-up to make out like she hadn't been crying, she walked out her bedroom.

"What are you still doing here?"

"I wanted to wait for you" 

"That was nice of you" He put his hand out for Nicki to hold and they walked down the stairs.

"Hurry up you two! Dinner's going to get cold" Nicki let go of Micaiah's hand and he ran to the table and she speed walked the rest of the way.

After they had finished eating, Nicki helped clear the table while Carol washed up the dishes.

"When you finish, go sit down I want to talk to you" Carol said.

After wiping the table, Nicki went to the living room to wait for her mum.

"Are you going to tell why you ran in so upset?" 

"I... Drake..." Nicki's words got choked up and she couldn't finish speaking before she burst out in tears.

"You and Aubrey broke up?" Carol asked getting her a tissue.

"No but sort of" Nicki tried saying but her tears were stopping her. After calming down a bit, Nicki laid her head on her mothers lap and explained what happened. Carol ran her fingers through Nicki's hair as she spoke.

"If you think that is what you needed to do then,"

"But what if it wasn't the right thing and I just ruined the best relationship I've ever had"

"If you really love him like you say you do and he really loves you, everything will work out"

"I hope so" Nicki whispered.

A week later, Nicki and Drake had still not got back together. 

"So Nicki, we were thinking what if we go on like a quadruple date"

No. This is the last thing I want to happen right now.

Nicki was playing with the ring on her finger then looked up and said. "Who are the couples?"

"Me and Jerome, Candi and her man, Lauren and her man and you and Drake"

"Wait, who is your man?" Nicki asked Candi.

"And who is your man?" She asked Lauren.

"Dominic, it happened after prom" Candi shrugged.

"Willy. He's had a crush on me for I don't know how long but I decided to give him a chance" 

"Oh, that's good" Nicki sighed.

This date is going to be fabulous... not.

The week went by fast, Nicki still did not want to go on the date but she knew she had to. Her friends had no idea that she and Drake were separated.

"Mum, I'm going on a date tonight"

"With who?"

"TT, Candi, Lauren, Dominic, Jerome, Willy... Drake" Nicki mumbled Drake's name.

"Well have fun and don't be back too late"

"Don't worry, I won't" I don't want to stay out late anyway.

Nicki put on a simple outfit for the date. 

"I hope this is not to over the top"

After saying goodbye to her family, she got in her car and drove to the location of the date.

When Nicki parked up, she noticed Drake's car coming into the car park.

I don't want to have a conversation with him cause I know it'll end badly.

She grabbed her handbag, locked her car and went to inside the restaurant. Unknowingly to Nicki, Drake was feeling the exact same way.

Please don't make them make us sit together because I won't be able to handle it.

After Drake walked into the restaurant, he noticed everyone had sat down and there was one seat left. Next to Nicki.

Drake was slightly annoyed but didn't let it show. He walked over to the table and smiled at everyone. During the meal, Candi noticed how Drake and Nicki did not really talk to each other.

She text TT to see if she knew what was going on.

* What's going on with Nic and Driz?

After texting her, Candi whispered to her to check her phone.

* I don't know but it's making me feel uncomfortable. Whatever it is, they need to sort it.

When it came to ordering their desserts, the girls could not take it no more. They told them what they wanted to order and they went to the toilet and dragged Nicki with them.

"Okay. What is going on?" TT asked.

"Nothing" Nicki said fiddling with her hair.

"You don't have to lie to us" Lauren told her.

"I didn't want to make it obvious but you guys are bugging me so, me and Drake are on a break okay?!"

"Why? You two were so happy together" Lauren said.

"Yeah that's what I thought" Candi agreed.

"We were, I just needed a break you know?"

The girls nodded. "I'm ready to get back with him but I don't think he wants to talk to me or date me at the moment"

"Just try, the way he looked at you when you were talking show he still cares about you"

"And I'm sure that ring he gave you, yes I know he gave it to you, still means whatever it's supposed to mean"

"What kind of ring is it?"

"A promise ring, he said he promises to love me forever"

"See, you'll get back together. Don't worry"

"I honestly have the best best friends a girl could ask for" Nicki opened her arms so she could hug them all at once.

They said and had a group hug. "We know" 

While the girls were in the toilet, the boys were having a similar conversation.

"How could you and barbie aren't talking?" Dominic asked.

"Why do you call her barbie?" Willy asked.

"Because she looks like a barbie doll, not like fake and plastic, I mean she literally looks like a barbie doll. Anyway back to my question"

Here I am discussing my relationship problems with my ex's friend’s boyfriends.

"We're on a break"

"No man. What fo'?"

"She wanted to, I didn't"

"Bro, you need to fix that before another nigga gets her"

If she ain't mine, I don't want her to be anyone else's.

Drake knew they had to talk about it but didn't want everyone to be there when they did.

The girls returned and ate their desserts. Afterwards, they paid the bill and made their way ho to their cars. Nicki waited for Drake to come out so they could talk, she waved at her friends as they left.

Drake had gone to the toilet after they paid, when he came out the restaurant. He immediately spotted Nicki stood next to his car. 

Drake walked over to his car and over to her.

"We need to talk" They said at the same time.

"You go first" Drake said.

"Okay. Over this last week, I've been thinking about us and our relationship. I've really missed you and I regret taking this break but it helped me realise a lot"

"I was sad that you said you wanted to take a break. I'm sorry for walking out as well. I realised a lot too, I've seen many girls trying to get with me this week and none of them has compared to you. I only want you and if you're willing to back with me, I will do everything to prove that too you"

"You really know how to make me feel special. I knew from when we started dating that you were the only one I wanted and I could tell you only wanted me too. I'm sorry and I love you" Nicki left the tears that was trying to escape do so. Drake got his finger and wiped them away.

"I love you too" Drake opened his arms and Nicki walked straight into them. Drake kissed her head and Nicki was inhaling his cologne.

When they pulled away, Nicki looked up and locked Drake in with her eyes. Drake wanted to break it but it was unbreakable. Simultaneously, they both leaned in for a kiss and just like in the movies, sparks flew.

Did they make up too fast? I wanted to put a bit of drama or whatever into the story so yeah. I was originally going to split this into two chapters but since there are only 3 chapters left, there was no point. Hope you like it :)
